Silly Interview with Stephen Payne (owner of Payne’s Restaurant in Gas City)

Here is a little information about Stephen Payne, local owner of Payne’s Restaurant in Gas City. Afterwards, we asked him a few silly questions! Enjoy!

Stephen Payne is 44 years old. He came to America and lived in L.A. initially, then moved to Indiana and opened Payne’s in 2004. He thought he could leave it and return to L.A.; he was wrong. He’s loved it ever since, loved growing it, and existing in the market place, like nature. He’s loved creating a place to eat in an unlikely space. Stephen still owns and operates the restaurant with no end in sight!

Fortress:  If you could spend one day in someone else’s shoes, who would it be and why?

Stephen: Neil DeGrasse Tyson so I could get my head around the universe.
Fortress: If you were going to bury a time capsule, what would you put in it?

Stephen: My love for my kids so I could remember how terrific they were when they were little.
Fortress: When you were a kid, did you want to own a restaurant when you grew up or did you want to do something else?

Stephen: I never planned on owning a restaurant, but now it seems that’s where things were leading me all along. I never really wanted anything other than happiness, which I always had.
Fortress: If you could describe yourself using only 3 words, what would they be?

Stephen:  Tenacious, Diplomatic, and Single Minded.
Fortress: If you could be any cartoon character, who would you be and why?

Stephen: Popeye. He is strong, righteous and loved vegetables.
